On the promotary to the north of the city of A Coruña are two sets of modern megaliths that are worth a look, as well as an ancient Roman lighthouse, originally called "Farum Brigantium", now called the Tower of Hercules.

From this site:

"The site Field of the Rat was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, with good reason. The Tower of Hercules is a tower and lighthouse perched on a hill on the peninsula of the city of La Coruña in Galicia ( Spain ). Its total height is 57 meters, and dates from the first century . It has the privilege of being the only Roman lighthouse and the oldest in operation in the world."

"The megaliths at the Field of the Rat were raised in tribute of the victims of pro-Franco repression, particularly those who died in terrible incidents in the area."

In 2001, a large monument, similar to a prehistoric megalith [a poignant partial Stonehenge replica with a sad poetic tribute to the dead—N.W.] was raised at this site. The peace monument, designed by artist Isaac Diaz Pardo consists of blocks of granite and has spots of red paint symbolizing blood shot.

On the same site, there are also 12 large menhirs, large, upright stone structures that look over the Atlantic Ocean.

The menhirs at the Field of the Rat contribute to a calm atmosphere and they are named the Menhirs of Peace.

Carved with strategic holes to let visitors look through for themselves and interpret their own meaning, the stones designed by Galician sculptor Manolo Paz offer everyone the chance to reflect on family and future. Paz’s goal was to evoke feelings of parents standing with their children."

The words on the partial Stonehenge replica translate to something like “Martyred in these fields before the murky sea for loving just causes.”

This photo on Flickr is one of my favourites. https://www.flickr.com/photos/lewosky/3495847231/

Nice to see something so unusual. The ground must be really dry, she's standing en pointe. I like that modern dolmen, they've balanced the 'flying' capstone really well.

I'm not sure that it's modern. I looked up Pedra dos Cadris, like on the sign and found this (using Google Translate):

"The "Pedra dos Cadrís" or "Piedra de los kidneyos" due to its shape, are attributed healing properties. It is believed that if they are passed nine times below it, kidney diseases, back and head pains are cured and that it symbolizes the sail of the boat where the Virgin made her appearance."

        From here. https://bluscus.es/leyendas-y-piedras-en-muxia/

I agree Nancy, the name Pedra dos Cadrís which is carved on the sign in front of 'La buena sombra' which means the good shadow on Andy's link would be unlikely to be placed by a modern stone, particularly one that is attributed with healing properties.

I think La buena sombra is the title of the flickr photograph and the stone itself is called Pedra dos Cadris

It's also near the end of the well known Pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostela
Interesting extract on this blog https://johnniewalker-santiago.blogspot.com/2010/07/coast-of-death-and-life.html
"Finisterre is the end of the world and the end of the pilgrimage route, they say. Well perhaps, because the next village round the coast Muxía claims to be the “religious end” to the pilgrimage to Santiago. Whatever the merits of this claim I find the walk round to Muxía beautiful and quite reflective. Muxía is a small fishing village very reminiscent of similar communities on the coast of Scotland. Unlike them however it boasts a miracle. Several actually. “This is the place where the Virgin Mary arrived in a stone boat to encourage St James in his work preaching the Gospel.” The hospitalero explained. “And there on the beach in front of the Church of El Sanctuario de la La Barca lies the evidence.” If you look closely you can imagine that one giant rock might be the upturned hull of a boat. But this is a place of imagination, romance, superstition and folklore. This is the coast where the Pedra de Abalar can be rocked by a group of people standing on it and depending on which way the see-saw falls gives yes or no answers to important questions. Other miraculous properties are said to be held by the Pedra dos Cadris where if you wriggle through the low archway you may be cured of kidney or back problems. In the 18th Century these magic stones were said to have powers of fertility but conception had to take place on the stones themselves. It is understandable that this uncomfortable, tourism averse, practice died out."

              You're welcome Nancy!

Interesting bit about the Pedra de Abalar just above the extract I posted from that blog. it's what we'd call a rocking stone or a Logan stone.

The link Andy posted upthread https://bluscus.es/leyendas-y-piedras-en-muxia/ has this fascinating snippet
The best known is the "Pedra de Abalar" , which is said to be the stone boat that remained there after the encounter between the Apostle Santiago and the Virgin. Legend has it that the people who moved the stone were free from sin , because otherwise the stone would not "fly". In addition, there is a popular belief that the stone sways when you want because at some time many people have placed on top and the stone has not "shot". Other times the stone "abala" alone and it is believed that when it does it is to presage a misfortune.

Throughout the centuries, "La Pedra de Abalar" has been the object of magical-religious worship due to the properties attributed to it. From a divinatory purpose to an instrument to determine the guilt or innocence of people, the Pedra de Abalar has a length of 8.70 m and a width of almost 7 m.

In addition to these, other religious legends related to the "Pedra de Abalar" also appeared with Christianization. A local tells that during the Civil War between Castile and Portugal the stone did not swing in the seven years that the contest lasted. It is also said that once thieves wanted to steal in the Sanctuary of the Boat and the stone swayed so strong that its loud sound woke up all the neighbors and scared the thieves."
