Heapstown Cairn
Heapstown Cairn submitted by jeffrep : Heapstown Cairn, County Sligo, Ireland. (Vote or comment on this photo)
It is claimed that the Heapstown Cairn, at almost 200 feet in diameter and almost 20 feet tall, is the largest cairn in Ireland outside of the Boyne Valley in County Meath. Originally much larger, many of its stones were removed to build roads and walls in the past. It is surrounded by a kerb of mostly large limestone slabs.

Heapstown Cairn has not been excavated, but it is thought that it is most likely a passage tomb, and, quite possibly, an extension of the nearby Carrowkeel Megalithic Cemetery.
