Porta de Lamas de Mouro submitted by Alta-Falisa : Porta de Lamas de Mouro On Google Maps, the coordinates 42.039194 -8.195659 correspond exactly to the entrance door ; Bing Maps, strangely, lands some 5 m off... but it doesn't matter in this case. Information Centre in North Portugal

Porta de Lamas de Mouro = Gate of Lamas de Mouro.
"Porta" or "Gate" is to be understood as Information Centre about the Natural Park ; "Lamas de Mouro" is the name of the nearby village.

See comments by Alta-Falisa on Monday, 31 March 2014 for practical informations.

Note : There are another four such "Portas" around the Parque Nacional de Penada-Gérês (PNPG), where you'll find general information and documents about the park (fauna, flora, etc., and megaliths in this case).

Porta de Lamas de Mouro
I strongly recommend a preliminary visit to the Information Centre of Lamas de Mouro. The region is rich in megaliths, if only just a few are very striking. The staff available at the Information Centre may not be in position to answer sophisticated questions.

On this homepage : http://adere-pg.pt/trilhos/percursos3.php,
click on "Porta de Lamas de Mouro", and among the percoursos, select "Trilho do Megalitismo do Planalto de Castro Laboreiro" ("trilho" = "trail" ; "Castro Laboreiro" is the village at the end of road N.202-3), to open the page :
http://adere-pg.pt/trilhos/imagens/ficheiros/061857_1_6306_megalitismo_CLaboreiro.pdf

That trail, the "Trail of the Plateau of Castro Laboreiro" starts at Rodeiro (42.054760, -8.140130). It is 13 km long one way, estimated duration 4 hr one way – and you have to come back on foot ! It will lead you to about 30 mamoas (tumuli), out of which only a few, towards the end of the trail, has been searched. All trails are reputed very well marked.
