Anta da Lajinha is also known as Anta do Pereiro and is a dolmen located at Cardigos, in the municipality of Mação, district of Santarém. This monument was built in the Neo-Chalcholitic period and is not yet classified.
About the location, size and other facts
This monument is located at the rupture of the top penchant of an hillock, overlooking the Pracana riverside. The chamber is about 2.5 meters on the bigger axis, with a corridor of similar extension, with a mound which may not have covered the whole monument, waged by a lytic ring of containment made out of schist. The dolmen was built with an octagonal plant with pillars made also of schist. Two pillars have been removed in 1939 and the other four have subsequently disappeared. The original plant suggests a corridor orientated East.
About the access
If you try your luck alone I must warn you, the access is a nightmare. There are some signposts on the way identifying the Lithos circuit. This route is organized by the Museum of Pre-Historic Art of Mação (Museu de Arte Pré-Histórica de Mação) and you can make yourself a reservation, contact them if you want a guided tour with professional guidance. Within this route is possible to see the Anta da Foz do Rio Frio and even some ancient rock art in the Ocreza Archaeological Park (Parque Arqueológico do Ocreza).
