I'm quite amazed that this place existed, 4000 years ago, on a rock outcrop in the desert next to the ocean. I wonder where they got their water from. I'll do more research.

    In Andean Archaeology I: Variations in sociopolitical organization, Isbell and Silverman describe it as "unique", and point to the theory that in this arid section of the west coast of South America cultures rose by exploiting ocean resources. But even the maritime theory often includes irrigated cotton in agriculture. (See some of the comments under the Portal entry on Caral.
    It looks like Las Aldas is at least seven miles from the closest bend of the Casma river valley.
