Charles De Gaulle Obelisk
Charles De Gaulle Obelisk submitted by martinjeley : The view of the reverse side of the Obelisk is in contrast to the smooth sides presented to the street. It reminds of the masonic symbolism of the rough stone yet to shaped. (Vote or comment on this photo)
A modern obelisk in honour of Charles de Gaulle by the French artist, Olivier Debré. It was erected on the edge of Lafontaine Park in Montreal in 1992.

17.6 metres tall and "in the shape of an obelisk, consisting of seven superimposed elements. Depending on the point of view, it offers either uniform or fragmented surfaces." - PLEPUC.

Charles De Gaulle Obelisk
Charles De Gaulle Obelisk submitted by martinjeley : This closer view from the rear shows a cleft in the stone that stretches from the first to the sixth of the seven elements. In the cleft, as shown here, is what appears to be a portion of a Fleur-de-Lys in blue. I will not speculate but the overall impression of this monument appears to send an interesting message. I have been unable to locate any explanation of the symbolism in searching the web. (Vote or comment on this photo)
