Alta-Falisa visited on 11th Mar 2014 - their rating: Cond: 5 Amb: 5 Access: 5 A superb monument set in an exceptional site, in a thinly populated region. It is indeed far from everything, but really worth a visit, being accessible by car on asphalted roads all the way.

Burial Chamber (Dolmen) in Galicia

Casola do Foxo is a most elegant dolmen, set up in a most splendid environment, and enjoying a most serene quietness, away from any town or road of importance.
The lake, albeit artificial, adds a lot to the magic of the place.
The coordinates given are exact.
There is no signpost anywhere, but the lake and in particular the dam are unmistakable landmarks.

Really, instead of coming by car, the best would be, if it wasn't so time consuming, to come on foot or on a horse, so out of time being the villages and hamlets of the whole region !

You may come over Requiás (Portugal), on the Southern shore of the lake, but I recommend to come over Maus de Salas (Spain), on Northern shore. If needed, ask for your way out of the maze of narrow streets (provided you find somebody – Spanish or maybe Portuguese spoken, please).

About 0.8 km after the village of Maus de Salas, at a T-junction, take the left branch – it leads to the lake. The road is paved or asphalted all the way to the dam, and beyond.
(About 50 m before the dam, on the right-hand side, at about 30 m from the road, you'll see a first dolmen : Casiña da Moura – see separate entry).

Casola do Foxo is about 150 m after the dam, on the left of the road – you cannot overlook it.

Casola do Foxo
Casola do Foxo submitted by Alta-Falisa : Casola do Foxo (Galicia, Spain). Photo taken with the lake behind me. The access road (not apparent on the photo) lies 5 m behind the dolmen. This place is extremely quiet : in one hour, I only met one local inhabitant, driving from Requiás (on the Southern shore of the lake) to the other village, Maus de Salas (on the Northern shore). And one visitor like me. March 2014. (Vote or comment on this photo)
