Ancient Village or Settlement in Beja, São Cucufate Roman villa is regarded as “the best rural house in Portugal”.

São Cucufate Roman villa is regarded as “the best rural house in Portugal”. This region was occupied around the 4th or the 3rd millennium BC. The date of the first friar settlement in the Roman farm remains unknown. From the 13th century, the Augustine Friars of São Vicente de Fora settled here. In the 17th century, no other community took hold of the building, even though the chapel remained opened to cult until the 18th century. In São Cucufate, you will find a two-storey building that includes a long central structure, delimited by two side prominent edifices.
