Centro de Interpretação de Arte Rupestre do Vale do Tejo
(in short : Museu Arte Rupestre, or CIART).

Museum in Vila Velha de Ródão.

Prehistoric Rock Art in the Tagus Valley (Rio Tejo in Portugese ; Rio Tajo in Spanish ; Rio Taejo when it comes to the Rio Internacional) was ascertained in October 1971 : a field comparable to the one discovered several years later in the Vale do Rio Côa and much more mediatized.
As the Dam of Fratel (further downstream, see entry "Gardete") was about to be built, a dam which would – and did – submerge a large part of them, a team of archaeologists and students undertook to record most of the engravings (by moulding, photographing, sampling).
Today, an overview of their effort is accessible in the (small, but extremely interesting) museum inaugurated in 2012 at Vila Velha de Ródão, Praça do Pelourinho (Pillory's Square).
