Stone Circle in Co. Tipperary
This is an uncertain site according to Burl.
There used to be up to 300 standing stones, but now only 121 remain. It's thought that 100 fallen stones have been either robbed or taken away for other reasons. They are probably Neolithic in date, but there is much uncertainty about this. At one time some of the larger stones may have formed a stone circle, but most are scattered around the Timoney Hills. They range in height between 2-5 feet. Local folklore tells of druidical practices taking place around these strange stones, and one theory put forward says they mark the site of an ancient battle.
