The dolmen of Tapadões is also known as Anta of Alter Pedroso. This monument is located near by the village of Alter Pedroso, 600 metres to the northwest, in the municipality of Alter do Chão, in the Portalegre district. It was built at the Neo-Chalcholitic period and is not yet classified.
About the architecture
The monument is located on a land of holmoaks next to a stretch of a Roman road. The chamber is composed of eight granite pillars. The entrance is facing southeast and there's no trace of a corridor. The capstone was never found.
About the access
The access is made by the road of Pedroso (M539) that goes from Alter do Chão to Alter Pedroso. There's a big signpost indicating the entrance to the location of the Anta. It's time to park your car and go by foot doing a small walk of around 320 metres. The big gate is closed but that's not a problem, there are two small open lifting doors, one on the right and one on the left side of the front gate. Just follow the dirt road trail until you see a big white descriptive plaque, the dolmen is hidden below a tree.

Aditional information:
- Follow the signs of the megalithic route.
- You are entering in private property but the access is possible.
- The entrance to the zone of the monuments may be blocked by fences, they were essentially made to demarcate the land and not allow the escape of livestock. Usually there are spaces in the fences within these demarcated areas where the access is possible. When entering in demarcated land never forget to close the access gate of the location, you need to be very aware because cattle can escape.
- There are no signs prohibiting us from entering so the access can be open but be careful when you explore every time you see this red plaques that alert you for the Hunting Zones. Remind yourself that usually hunters can only hunt at selected hunting days (Thursdays, Sundays and on public holidays).
