Megalithic monument in North Portugal

Distrito de Bragança, area of Donai

More information at IGESPAR. Auto translation: Classified in 1951 as "Property of Public Interest", by proposal of the well-known Vimarenian investigator, Coronel Mário Cardozo, "Mamoa de Donai" (or "Mamoa de Tumbeirinho", as it is popularly known), stands in Place of Devesa, in the vicinity of the town of Donai, who gave him his name.

Excavated at the end of the 19th century, José Henriques Pinheiro was responsible for the excavation, and was personally subsidized by the well-known nineteenth-century researcher Francisco Martins de GM Sarmento (1833-1899). This megalithic monument, chronologically attributed to the Neo-Chalcolithic, , which is why they seem to remain only a few uncharacteristic elements, among which a portion of the primitive mamoa - or tumulus- which covered the funeral chamber in question, associated with a possible small corridor.

As far as the estate found in the place, still in century XIX, were collected, among other artifacts, four axes of polished stone, a gouge and three blades of flint, most of which presently exhibited in the Museum of the Society Martins Sarmento, in Guimarães, who acquired them as early as 1891.
