Ancient Cross in Co. Armagh

The Journal of Antiquities includes an entry for The Bull’s Stone, Ballymacnab, Co. Armagh, Northern Ireland which tells us this stone is either a small standing stone, a carved stone or possibly part of a cross head. Legend associate the stone with St Patrick who was annoyed by a bull as he was trying to build his church. The Journal adds: "The place where the stone now stands, in a little garden area, is referred to from “legend” as ‘The Bull’s Track’, a local landmark. The small round-shaped stone still has the imprint of a bull’s hoof on it".

In August 2018, the local paper, ArmaghI, reported: Anger as historical ‘Bull Track’ in Ballymacnab targeted by vandals.

The Journal tells us that not much is known about this stone, apart from the legends associated with it. The JoA includes a short list of reference sources for more information.
