Standing Stone in Co. Kildare

4.5 km NNE of the Punchestown menhir, 300 metres NNW of the road from Rathcoole to Punchestown (the old Woolpack Road), and 300 metres NNE of Forenaghts church, close to the demesne (estate) wall at Longstone Rath, this standing-stone is over 5 metres high and weighs some 13 tonnes. It is inside a circular banked enclosure with external ditch. This is not a rath or ‘ringfort’ but a ceremonial site. A kist-tomb was found adjoining the rock-cut socket of the monolith.

Re: Forenaghts Great by Anonymous on Saturday, 27 March 2004
I have just posted this web page showing the longstone (photo) and earthen ring
(in plan) along with its dimensions in ancient measures.

It is also listed as the Great Forenaughts longstone but the photo link
doesn't work.

I don't know HTML so you can copy this -
