The site comprises a chamber with its orthostats largely intact and a passage leading to it. There is no capstone in place. Fires have been lit by and inside the chamber, and litter was scattered about - the poor old dolmen suffering from its proximity to the nearby town.

Carmonita Dolmen is located north of Mérida. Take the A66 motorway23 kilometres north and turn off onto the BA99 / CC78 to travel west into the village of Carmonita. Travel to the far side of the town and turn right (north) to reach a junction of 5 earth roads and tracks. The right hand one which travels uphill north will lead you to a fenced park after a kilometre.

The park is on the right hand side of this earth road and the dolmen is inside the park. There was plenty of room to park when I visited in April 2010. The coordinates at the site taken with my hand held GPS are: 39.16464N and 06.34265W.

Carmonita Dolmen
Carmonita Dolmen submitted by DrewParsons : Set in a fenced park, this site had a number of familes and children around it on the weekend that I visited. Clearly from the unsavoury rubbish and signs of fires in and around the stones it was frequented by less desirable folk in the evenings, despite the fence. Carmonita Dolmen submitted by DrewParsons : The chamber's orthostats have been preserved, although fires have been lit by the stones recently. I removed some litter to take this photo and found it was a Durex box, the used contents behind the dolmen. (Vote or comment on this photo)
