The Royal Commission on Ancient and Historical Monuments of Scotland (1928) identified Carn Ban as a circular cairn measuring 52 feet in diameter; and the OS (1961) noted that the cairn might have been chambered. However R Miket (1988) suggests that it is not a chambered cairn, but the remains of a dun, or possibly a broch.

Large stones set on edge mark the circumference; and there are remains of structures in the interior.

See Canmore NG46NE 2.
