Rock outcrop in Isle of Skye

A huge (50m tall) natural stone pillar. It looks like a giant natural standing stone.

A quick google gives these results, but as for provenance, I don't know.

" Legend has it that the Old Man of Storr gets its name because the rock outline and the protruding pinnacle resemble that of the face of an old man. “Storr” itself is Norse in origin and is thought to mean “Great Man”."

Good shot of his profile here http://austinglobetrekker.wordpress.com/tag/the-old-man-of-storr/ " Legend says that long ago giants lived on Skye and when the Old Man died he was covered up by the earth with only his thumb left sticking out. "

Are their known prehistoric connections to the Storr, or does it figure in folklore?

I don't know of any, it's a pretty remote spot. It probably shouldn't be on here unless anyone knows of any.
