Promontory Fort in the Highlands

Before you go, read Canmore 22141.

This is an impressive site with a very impressive outlook north to the mountains of Rum, and out to other islands of the Inner Hebrides. The walk is a little over 1 mile each way.

Leave the public car park at Sanna and go NNW to the footbridge where the Allt Sanna meets the beach. I recommend you then aim for, and keep to, the higher ground so as to avoid boggy land you might encounter on a more direct NNE route. The east and west sides of the fort are high and vertical. Stand too close to either and a sudden gust of wind might cause serious consequences.

Fort at Rubha an Duin Bhain
Fort at Rubha an Duin Bhain submitted by SumDoood : Looking from the west, the flattish top of the fort can be seen against the inlet. The cliff across the inlet is steeper than vertical at its northern end and clearly recognisable as one travels down the road from Achnaha to Sanna. (Vote or comment on this photo)
