Howth
Howth submitted by KenWilliams : The dolmen sits in a pile just beside a trackway through the trees off the golf course at Howth Castle. This is the first sight of it as you cross the small stream. (Vote or comment on this photo)
Portal Tomb in Co. Dublin

In the grounds of Howth Castle, romantically situated some 230 metres to the right of the entrance to the Rhododendron Walk, this dolmen has partly collapsed under the weight of its huge capstone, estimated to weigh 70 tonnes, which evidently came from the steep quartzite face of Muck Rock above.

Howth
Howth submitted by holger_rix : Dolmen, Howth, Co Dublin The Dolmen is located behind the Deerpark Hotel on one of the many trails on Howth Head and is reputed to be one of the largest in Ireland, even though the large capstone has slipped from it's original position. Howth Head is associated with many ancient Irish legends, and there is an excellent account of the Dolmen here: www.voicesfromthedawn.com/howth-dolmen/ ... (Vote or comment on this photo)

Re: Howth Cairn at Howth Castle Demesne deerpark by Anonymous on Tuesday, 27 December 2022
In tales of the elders of Ireland Ascallam na Senórach text from 12th centuary page 8,
It says This Cairn was know as the Cairn of the Fían-Warrior and this is where Finn MacChull sat after a deer hunt with his hounds between Howth and the sea.
This Cairn is in How Castle Demesne in the Deerpark where the rhodendiums are.
It is the heaviest one in Ireland. Yka

Locally this dolmen is called Aideens Grave and if you go to the following website you will see a lot about it, with good photos. http://www.secret-ireland.com/aideens-grave-howth-castle/

I visited in Sept 2020 and got completely lost approaching the site from the Deerpark reservoir direction. From the main road near the Dart Rail Station go up the newly tarmacced road, through the large gates of Howth Castle and continue to the top where there is a large car park with the Golf Course next to it. Follow a path at the top of the Car Park on the right next to the low wooden fence. At the corner where the wood starts walk on the grass at the edge of the golf course (No path) keep close to the trees for 500 yards until you see a path into the woods marked "To TEE No. 4". Keep walking on the made up path until you see the dolmen. If walking this way from the Rail station it will take about 35 minutes.
