Gongoozler visited on 3rd Apr 2023 - their rating: Cond: 4 Amb: 5 Access: 2 Thanks to the instructions from KiwiBetsy the spring was easy to find, although quite a good hike. Not very impressive in itself, but a great location. A local resident has confirmed that water from the spring has been used for baptisms at St Kildas church in Lochbuie

Tobar Chaluim Chille (Mull)
Tobar Chaluim Chille (Mull) submitted by KiwiBetsy : Tobar Chaluim Chille today is marked only by a pair of distinguished lichen clad stones but the landowner speaks of a stick holding a cup in recent history. The water is apparently still used in St Kilda’s Church, Lochbuie for christenings and it may be the unidentified well near Loch Buie whose medicinal properties were mentioned in a 17th century account of the area. Holy Well or Sacred Spring in Isle of Mull

To locate this spring on Mull take the minor road to Lochbuie signed off the A849. In Lochbuie where the road reaches the loch, turn right and park at the end of the public road. Walk up the private road to Cameron Farm. Just before the farmhouse go through a gate on your left following the old track from Lochbuie to Carsaig. It passes some farm buildings on your left and goes through another gate and can be very wet. Follow this track along the hill and around the top of a small area of woodland. Keep on until the headland ahead to your left is behind you and you have tired of ravens cronking overhead. You come to a stone wall, go through the gap and immediately over a stream which will involve some stone hopping. To your left is another stone wall, follow it uphill to it’s corner (you are outside the pentagonal area it encloses) where the track forks. Take the less distinct branch to your left which follows the wall to its next corner. Here the track continues straight and climbs a bit as the wall gets further away on your left. Keep track of the wall as it goes out of sight behind a ridge as just before you are level with it’s next corner the well is on your right. There are 3 springs feeding into the head of a stream. Tobar Chaluim Chille is the first spring you reach. You may need to get onto the ridge and check out that corner of the wall to confirm location and anyway it’s worth it for the view over Loch Buie to Lagan Sands and Moy Castle.
