Las Peñezuelas
Las Peñezuelas submitted by ernar : Despite the over-restoration, the Passage Grave of “Las Peñezuelas” is still a treat due to the sheer size of the chamber’s orthostats. Sadly, agricultural activity has destroyed what remained of the tumulus, and the corridor has almost disappeared due to an earthen track built beside the Megalith. Excavations have yielded several Neolithic elements including carvers and arrow points. (Vote or comment on this photo)
Passage Grave in Castilla y León

The Dolmen of “Las Peñezuelas” was discovered and excavated by the Augustinian Monk Cesar Morán. Dating from the second half of the 4th millennium BC, Las Peñezuelas is a much restored Passage Grave of which only the main circular chamber and a vestigial corridor remain. The tumulus and most of the corridor has been destroyed by ploughing and the construction of and earthen track.

Excavations at different times yielded Neolithic elements such as geometric microliths, carvers, silex arrow points and necklace pieces.

To reach “Las Peñezuelas”, take the road from Quiruelas de Vidriales to Granucillo. Once there, follow the road until you cross the village. Once you are in the other side of Granucillo, the dolmen will be signposted to your left. Follow the earthen track some hundred meters to find the Megalith. (Do not mistake the signpost with the one to the Dolmen of San Adrian which will lead you over the bridge to your right).

Latitude and Longitude are approximate data obtained through multimap.

Las Peñezuelas
Las Peñezuelas submitted by ernar : This picture of the Passage Grave shows the size difference between the main chamber orthostats and the corridor remaining ones. Outlined against the sky one can see the Carpurias Hills. It is in that direction that the Dolmen of San Adrian can be found. (Vote or comment on this photo)
