Chambered Cairn in Castilla y León

Some hundred meters from the chappel of San Adrian in Granucillo, you can find another fine megalith. Also dating from the second half of the fourth millennium BC, the Dolmen of San Adrian is set on a small rise immediately to the south of the Carpurias Hills. From its location, the monument commands the whole valley, including the river (to the south) and an old pool (east).

The site still features a significant tumulus together with a chamber formed by eleven orthostats. An access corridor is present, though it is assumed to have been a result of the restoration of the site.

To reach “Las Peñezuelas”, take the road from Quiruelas de Vidriales to Granucillo. Once there, follow the road until you cross the village. Once you are in the other side of Granucillo, the dolmen will be signposted to your right, taking an earthen track just after crossing the river. Take the first track to the right, leading to the San Adrián chapel, where you will find an access track to the tumulus. (Do not mistake the signpost with the one to Las Peñezuelas which will lead you to your left just before the bridge).

Latitude and Longitude are approximate data obtained through multimap.

Dolmen de San Adrian
Dolmen de San Adrian submitted by ernar : The most inspiring view of the Megalith is the southern one. Without a house to be seen, the wind blowing strongly about you, and the dusk view of the Carpurias Hills, you feel easily transported to an ancient era. From this location, the small promontory to the left of the Dolmen is certainly asking to be explored ... (Vote or comment on this photo)

Dolmen de San Adrian
Dolmen de San Adrian submitted by ernar : From the North, the site overlooks the whole river valley. Just behind the tumulus the chapel you can see the chapel which gives name to the Megalith. (Vote or comment on this photo)
