Standing Stone (Menhir) in Argyll

The Northern Antiquarian (TNA) has a page for this (now destroyed?) standing stone which is near Barnacarry House. Their reference comes from RCAHMS (1988), which describes an 'old stone standing 'pon this hill' standing some 3 and 1/2 feet tall. See TNA's entry for Cnoc Mor, Garbhallt, Argyll which gives directions for finding this site.

At the same grid reference given by TNA, Canmore ID 40571 has no listing for a standing stone, although they do list "a group of about 12 recessed platforms are cut into the projecting hillside between Barnacarry and Inver Cottage. 2 platforms had diameters of 6.4m; 8 of 7.3m, 1 of 8.2m; and 1, probably, of 9.1m. All were apparently earth banked. As at Lephinchapel the hillside is artificially terraced and some of the platforms are cut into the terraces."

This site both in Cowal and also Argyll. Probably the county should be changed to Cowal for consistency with other sites in Cowal.

Canmore places this site in Argyll and Bute, which is why is was entered like this. Hope this helps?

I don''t mind if the site say cowal or Argyll. Both are correct although we should be consistent and move the other cowal sites to Argyll.

Hello, thanks, the Cowal sites are shown here
        https://www.megalithic.co.uk/search.php?country=3&county=112&type=stories

I'm not about to edit these to all be Argyll - and also Cowal serves as a useful differentiation.

So if the sites in question are on the Cowal peninsula we should change them to Cowal.
Feel free to point any others out David(s) and we can edit them.
        Thanks

I think that all four that should have been Cowal are now correct (Ardachearanbeg Standing Stone, Balliemore (Craigendive), Auchnagarran and this).
          Thanks
          David
