Glenashdale Fort

A later prehistoric fort which occupies a natural shelf on a steep SE-facing slope above the Glenashdale Burn, within a small forestry clearing. The fort is enclosed by a semi-circular wall (about 5m thick), the N arc of which is partially intact with both internal and external faces surviving to a maximum of five courses (1.5m high). On the NE side is a straight entrance (2m wide) lined with large boulders.

There is much tumble on the W, and on the S little stonework is in evidence. The interior, which measures 25m by 20m, is uneven and partly overgrown with scrub.

The area to be scheduled measures up to 60m from E to W by 50m transversely, to include the fort and an area around in which traces of evidence associated with its construction and use may survive, as marked in red on the attached map.
