Excavation of the recently discovered fogou is ongoing. The objective is to complete excavation of the fogou entrance and erect a permanent fence around the excavation area. This will make it much safer for members of the public to visit.
Radiocarbon dates have been returned by SUERC (Scottish Universities Environmental Research Centre) from deposits sampled from postholes in the Boden roundhouse. These dates suggest a date of circa 1300BC (the Middle Bronze Age) for the roundhouse.
In January 2010 MAG members excavated a section through the enclosure ditch at Boden. A number of artefacts were recovered from the 2.8m deep ditch, including rim, body and base sherds from a number of Iron Age vessels. Preliminary analysis suggests that these are similar forms to those found during the 2003 evaluation, suggesting construction of the enclosure ('round') in the 5th or 6th century BC. A short report will follow.
2012: Meneage Archaeology Group are currently excavating test pits on the Bronze Age and Iron Age site at Boden Vean on the Lizard Peninsula. Excavation continues on occasional Saturdays.
See the Meneage Archaeology Group group, contact James Gossip for more details.
