Tobar Mhoire
Tobar Mhoire submitted by KiwiBetsy : The well simply flows from under several large granite slabs and down a channel to join a nearby burn. Someone had done some recent tidying up by clearing moss from the channel. Previous visitors had left a few coins in the water. (Vote or comment on this photo)
Holy Well or Sacred Spring in Highlands

Tobar Mhoire is a natural spring covered by 3 granite slabs. A church, of which no trace remains, is supposed to have stood near this well and is probably the one shown on a map dated 1662. A burial ground is still in use nearby.
To find the well leave the A832 to the right to Incheril. We drove to the carpark at the end of the road and took the walking track to the west but this got us on the wrong side of a deer fence and as the gate was locked we were stuck. On the second attempt we turned first left after leaving the A832, parked near the end of the road and continued on foot past the farmhouse on the left. Don’t go up to the cemetery, stay on the flat past the front of a small disused quarry, cross a stream at the west end of the quarry and follow the stream a short way to your left. The well is between the stream, which it joins, and the deer fence.

Re: Tobar Mhoire by Anonymous on Wednesday, 22 August 2007
My son and I wish to explore the standing stones and stone circles in the area as we have a week to do that just the same as we went to Callanish and other beautiful places on Lewis, also went to Orkney to see all the wonderful places like Skara Brae, Ring of Brodgar etc but locally we have Kilmartin Glen which must be very important in Scottish History. What can I say to make you believe after seeing 25 out of 92 sites in Grampian in a week. I live on the beautiful banks of Loch Lomond and I believe I am a very priveleged person to be able to live there.
