Burial Chamber (Dolmen) in Asturias
"Abamia dolmen is next to the church that gives its name and was sent to build by King Pelayo on a high plateau village of Corao.
The location of this megalith puts the trend was in the east of Asturias to continue using the sacred sites of the Stone Age in much later times like the Middle Ages is shown again.
This megalith does not have an exact date of construction, date back as Neolithic undetermined. Considering other nearby dolmens, the date of use could range between 5000-3000 BP.
As in other dolmens in the area, apparently it isolated but is actually a follow up by neighboring dolmens such as Santa Cruz, disappeared in the Amieva or Carbayo in Onis. This succession of rebel monuments that during the Neolithic, Güeña River Basin was a place with a lot of activity.
Currently it can hardly seen anything of the mound and in the case of the dolmen, continuous looting have prevented conservation, only uneven ground where once stood the dolmen and two ancient yews which mark the place can be seen.
The reports of the excavations in the early twentieth century some human skulls, polished stone axes, orange bills that could have been part of a necklace and a single stone decorations was taken to the Archaeological Museum of Madrid are documented.
Decorations dolmen Abamia were made at two different times, the first set is a ideomorfo (figure humanized form) located on top of the chip, known as the head of owl that the pattern appears to be the head an owl deep engraving drawn by two holes simulate eyes and with a finer groove simulates the nose or beak. The second set is located in the central part and is the oldest, consists of signs as a circle with a cross, a sort of H-shaped lines in zig-zag or semicircular strokes among others, all performed by staking.
There is little information available on the mound and in general especially regarding Abamia. Over time this area, although it seems so far, has suffered multiple looting, fires and reforms. Around the church itself Abamia there is great controversy over the poor state of conservation."
