Fishguard Gorsedd Circle submitted by Horatio : The Gorsedd Stone Circle was erected in 1936 to mark the National Eisteddfod, Wales' national celebration of music, literature and art. Each stone is inscibed with the name of the parish which provided it. The circle stands by Penslade, overlooking Fishguard's old harbour. Some Stonehenge stones depict mortice and tenon shapes, used in wooden building technique for 7000 years. I... (Vote or comment on this photo)

Please note the following details about the Gorsedd circle Fishguard submitted by "Klingon". It was not 1986 but 1936 as detailed below which also explains the confusion.

Gorsedd Circle
From the Royal Oak walk along West Street, past the flower beds and turn right along Penslade, at the end of which you will see a circle of large stones. This is the Gorsedd Circle, erected for the proclamation of the National Eisteddfod of Wales held at Fishguard in 1936. Fifty years later when the 'National' came to the town again, the Gorsedd Circle was erected in Lota Park. >From the Gorsedd Circle at Penslade there is a good view of Lower Town, or Cwm Abergwaun. Abergwaun (“Mouth of the river Gwaun”) is the original name for Fishguard, the latter having Norse or Saxon origins.
