Ancient Village or Settlement in Andalucía

Villa Romana de las Torres (excavated in 1915) was a perfect place to view the Pillars of Hercules, the gateway (14,5 km wide) from the Mediterranean Sea to the Atlantic Ocean.
This location was at least used by the Phoenicians and the Romans. It was destroyed in 429AD by the Vandals.
Large villa's were the core of the organization of the economic and social life on the south-east coast between 100-500 AD. Salted fish, fish sauce (garum), mining, and agriculture.
This Torres and Villa is one of the many locations of the Romans along the shore of the Spanish coastline. The villas had two parts, the urban part for the owner and his family and the rustic part which housed the workers -slaves and non-slaves- and the industrial activities.

There is an information board and nowadays the Torre is a parking area.
The artifacts found can be seen in the Museum of Málaga or Estepona.
