St Samson's Well (Golant)
St Samson's Well (Golant) submitted by KiwiBetsy : The well is in a beautiful setting looking out over the River Fowey. St Samson was a Welsh missionary who travelled widely. It is said he slew a serpent and occupied it’s cave while setting up a monastery. St Samson was over 100 years old when he died in Brittany about 565AD. (Vote or comment on this photo)
Holy Well / Spring in Cornwall

To find the well, head for Golant and then follow signs to the church. This is a late 15th century well with a lean-to roof and is attached to the south side of St Samson’s Church. The well is likely to be much older than the current structure as there is supposed to have been a hermitage on the site in the 6th century. The well had a locked modern wrought iron gate. Water from the well is still used for baptisms in the church.

St Samson's Well (Golant) submitted by cazzyjane : St Samson's Well, built along side the porch of the church of St Sampson at Golant. The gate to the well was unlocked and there was water but it didn't look very inviting! (Vote or comment on this photo)
