Healing Well in Scotland
Tradition has it that Robert the Bruce was cured of the leprosy that he contracted in later life by drinking the waters of this well, although given its current neglected condition, you're more likely to catch it from the well - that's if you could access the waters, which is not possible unless you fancy climbing over the fence, or know where to get hold of the padlock key.
Rusty railings, rubbish chucked down the stairs, a broken gate at the wellhead... all make for a rather dispiriting ambience, although the grassy - I hesitate to call it a park - area that it is situated in, with its saltire-crossed paths, is pleasant enough to sit in on a sunny day.
Still, it's an important piece of local history and is surely deserving of some TLC from the local council.
Parking is free on the roadside, and there is easy wheelchair access to the well.
