Hillfort in Renfrewshire

Barr Hill Fort was located at the summit of a small hill in the Renfrewshire countryside.

It was situated 98m above sea level, on plan it had a D-shape to it with an approx size of 70m x 45m (0.25ha)

First documented in the Statistical Account of 1795, the minister writing the report wrote that the Rampart was composed of loose stones about 90cm high.

In 1856 it was described as being defended on the North by perpendicular cliffs, and on the other sides it was approached by a long, steep ascent. There was still a semicircular Rampart of loose stones about 90cm high.

By 1895 the interior had been planted with trees, and when it was visited by OS in 1951 all traces of the HillFort had been destroyed by an Asphalt quarry.
