Alexander Mackenzie in his Prophesies of theBrahan Seer mentions that there is a "Fingal's Well" within the fort. The archeaology report dosn't mention a well. Can anyone give further information on this.

Excellent site, superb views, lots of vitrification all around the fort, many earthworks. Difficult to see how vitrification could be anything other than the intention of the builders.

Re: Knockfarrel by Anonymous on Monday, 28 July 2008
What would the builders do it for? Walls of vitrified fort were built up of small stones. Easier than lugging big stones to the top of the hill. To make strong walls, a double wall was built with pine wood struts between the walls. But when the heather caught fire (lighting, or malevolent invaders) the gap between the two walls became a chimney, and the heat was so intense that it melted the small stones of the walls. This was the theory I was told.
