Tir-gwyn submitted by nicoladidsbury : Tir Gwyn Western stone The stones are difficult to see from the road. I managed to catch this photo, before the light changed again. It was an incredible moment in time, and I was so moved to be there, to witness it. (Vote or comment on this photo)
Tir Gwyn stones are a pair of Standing Stones on the Lleyn peninsula in Gwynedd, on opposite sides of a large field, one to the south and one to the north, but are difficult to see from the road.

The stones lie in a private farmers field. There doesn't appear to be public access, and I wasn't sure where to ask.

The southern stone is about 9-10 foot high, broad on two faces, narrow on the others, it is also rather crooked. The northern stone is rather smaller and not so narrow.

Both stones are covered in lichen.

The stones are difficult to see from the road.

Tir-gwyn submitted by nicoladidsbury : We walked away just before the light changed and became incredible. We were half way back to the car, when terry said, look at the sky. We ran back to the stone, and managed to grad a few photos. I took this one on the way back, I just had to stop, the trees looked fantastic. Please forgive the lens flare, it had just started to rain, and a couple of rain drops on the lens caught the suns rays, ... (1 comment - Vote or comment on this photo)

Tir-gwyn submitted by nicoladidsbury : Tir Gwyn Western stone The stones are difficult to see from the road. The northern stone is well matched to its partner. It is tall, about 9-10 foot high and covered in lichens also. The view west is fantastic. It was late, and the sun was beginning to set to the west.

It is tall, about 9-10 foot high. This photo is taken from the east, and shows how the stone has quite a crooked shape. I think it is Carn Boudan Hillfort in the distance, to the West. (3 comments)

We were able to spot the other stone from this one, it lay at the other side of the field, quite some distance away.

Can we please split into two sites as the stones are quite far apart:

"6385","Tir-gwyn A","22","Standing Stones","SH3440739211","-4.464772","52.924709","Gwynedd","0","5","4","2","20698","tr"
"6385","Tir-gwyn B","22","Standing Stones","SH3441639034","-4.464539","52.923121","Gwynedd","0","5","4","2","20698","tr"

Thanks,

I'm going to pass on this one at the moment. To split the page into two requires picking apart which of the above photos should go on the N page and which on the S page and renaming the photos as appropriate. It's a fiddly job. Any other admins reading please feel free but please be careful not to disconnect any photos from both listings.

The stones lie in a private farmers field. The doesn't appear to be public access, and I wasn't sure where to ask.
There are two stones, in oposite sides of a large field. One to the south, and one to the north.
The southern stone is about 9-10 foot high, broad on two faces, narrow on the others, it is also rather crooked.
The northern stone is rather smaller and not so narrow.
Both stones are covered in lichen.
It was getting late when we came across this site. As we walked back to the car, after taking our photos, the light suddenly changed. As the sun was setting in the west, it broke out of the low cloud that had obscured it all day, and blasted us with a magnificent glowing orange light.
We ran back to the northern stone, and caught a couple of hastily snatched photos, and soaked up the atmostphere. It was amazing. I walked back to the car quite elated!
