Bryn Cywyn submitted by pab : Site in Carmarthenshire (Sir Caerfyrddin) Outline of Bryn Cywyn Enclosure in the late winter sunlight. (Vote or comment on this photo)
Ancient Village or Settlement in Carmarthenshire (Sir Caerfyrddin)

Defended Enclosure.

From the description on the RCAHMs' CEFLEIN website, this sounds rather obscure, but it is plainly visible from the road, as seen in the picture I have posted, which had the added benefit of the low winter sun on 4 Feb '07. The same winter sun showed some possible ancient tracks leading to the site, which I will have to investigate further!

CEFLEIN describes it as "Subrectangular banked & ditched enclosure, about 40m east-west by 25m, set on ground falling to the north-west, having an east-facing entrance: excavated 1972-3, revealing remains of rectangular timber buildings, limited finds, included two nail fragments; radio-carbon dating suggested occupation around the later 1st & earlier 2nd century AD." We thought it looked wonderful!
