Chambered Tomb in Anglesey

This rather unusual rectangular chamber in a kidney-shaped cairn with horned forecourt lies on the top of a limestone escarpment south of Benllech. The site was excavated by Lindsay Scott in 1933 when it was revealed that the chamber which is now composed of three uprights and a capstone, was built over a rectangular pit. The chamber is now open to the west, but was probably originally blocked with dry-stone walling. The entrance to the north from the forecourt is closed by a stone near to which pottery and bone were discovered during excavations.

The second chamber in the Benllech area. Use the 1:25,000 map - take the path to the west of a bungalow on the B5108, which heads south. This comes to a stile; over it and then right uphill. Then left to another stile into an oval shaped field. Head to the south west corner, where a rusted gate and stile wait. Over the stile, and the chamber emerges to the left if you proceed straight on from the stile. There were about a dozen horses here when I visited at evening twilight. Note: they don't like camera flash. All of them stampeded (away, thankfully) when automatic function of the camera triggered the flash. Besides the obvious impressive sized stones, notice the very wide and low circular mound on which they are placed.
