St Indract's Well
St Indract's Well submitted by Rory : St. Indract’s is certainly off the beaten track, which isn’t necessarily a reason to not to make the effort. Seeking out such “secret shrines” has taken me to lovely places I would not otherwise have had the motivation to visit, like here, by the banks of the Tamar. This Holy Well has a conscientious guardian who appeared to be expecting us. He was already striding up from the river as... (Vote or comment on this photo)

St Indract's Well
St Indract's Well submitted by cazzyjane : St Indract's Well. Restored in 1951. There is a niche at the back which holds a statue of the Virgin Mary, but a thick plastic cover has been bolted over her so she can no longer be seen or see out. (2 comments - Vote or comment on this photo)

Looking at the site today Im not 100% Im on the site with Google Earth, but the picture shows forces at the well.I found a site where a water vein runs from the NW and the NE under the well, with an active Ley from the east to west, but the one from the north is broken at the extreme west end of the farm to the north there a short distance away.It does feel warm and welcoming, but the broken Ley to the north reduces its influence for me.All Holy Wells for me are special and a place to enjoy, they ground you and all problems are gone in a moment.

It is, after all, St Indract's holy well - so why was there a statue of the Virgin Mary in the niche. There must have been a reason for that. Anyway, it's good that the well has been restored by the custodians.

We are the current custodians/owners of this holy well. The Virgin Mary statue was knocked off the plinth and broken. We replaced it with the statue of a monk (St. Indract was a monk). The plastic sheet has now been replaced with a wrought iron grille to match the gate. The roof was
also repaired about 10 years ago. 10 December 2018

Although some old guide books state there is a statue of the Virgin Mary the present owners have placed a stue of a monk in the niche at the back of the well as the stue that was there(not the Virgin Mary) was destroyed by wild life! Hence it is now held in place by a clear sheet of material.
