Holy Well or Sacred Spring in Carmarthenshire

I had previously doubted the existence of this site, believing it to be confused with the similar, nearby Capel Erbach. Unfortunately, I was unable to take a picture of this well as it is on private land and the owner is emphatic that he will not grant access to it. He has had unnerving experiences with previous visitors. It is believed that there are images of this site on other web sites.

For more information on this site, see Coflein NPRN 303970, which tells us: "There was, reportedly, originally a well close to the north wall and others at the west door, but by 1893 these were nearly choked up. In 1917 it was reported that there had recently been four or five wells outside the building and close to its north-eat corner, which had subsequently overflowed and merged into one another, creating a quagmire". There are, unfortunately, no digital photographs attached to this record.

The COFLEIN entry for Capel Begewdin makes reference to sacred wells, but unfortunately doesn't have any images. It gives an alternative name of Capel Bigawdin.

Thanks, PAB. How disappointing for you the owner wouldn't let you access the land to photograph the wells. I wonder what horrid experience he's had with previous visitors> Just a shame his experience then reflects on everyone else who wants to visit this sacred site.

I've added your Coflein link and the alternative name to the main site text. Thanks for the update.
