Rockfarmer visited on 10th Oct 2022 - their rating: Cond: 4 Amb: 4 Access: 3 As others have mentioned this stone is in a field off of Sandy Lane but the lane is so narrow it is impossible to park unless you are willing to block a farmers gate which is in use. If you wish to try, sandy lane can be accessed by leaving Woolacombe beach toward Ilfracombe on the B3343 and as you start to ascend the hill it is the narrow road on the left opposite The Red Barn Pub. Sandy Lane is not suitable for large vans/motorhomes. Martha and I found a better way to access the stone via a footpath ascending above Combesgate Beach. The footpath starts inbetween 2 houses on The Esplanade Google Maps Ref 51.177447,-4.211722 There is parking on the esplanade if its a quiet time of year. The footpath is steep, you need to follow the signs to Seymour. The view out to Lundy is wonderful so its well worth the hike. As your climb levels out in the field above, you come across another stone which is known as 'The Konk Stone' From here head to the field gate in the right hand corner and as you approach the wall you'll see the impressive quartz stone you came for. Its known as 'The Gospel Stone' on the OS Map.

Greystone
Greystone submitted by TeamSloth : View of the Greystone looking approximately south-west, showing its high position overlooking Woolacombe Bay. Photo taken on the 22nd of September 2016. (Vote or comment on this photo)
An impressive standing stone in a prominent position overlooking Woolacombe Bay. It is possible to park on Sandy Lane at Seymour Villas, and then walk north-west through two small fields, which contained cattle when we visited.

Stands 152m above sea level SSE of Morte Point above Woolacombe and close to Seymour Villas. It is formed from vein quartz with wisps of shale: and described as one of the most impressive examples in the district. North and East faces have been hewn away. There are many blocks of white quartz in surrounding field-walls. It is impossible to say whether the masses of quartz formed part of some ancient monument, or whether they were natural blocks once scattered over the surface and since rolled together to form a wall. The stone measures 2.13m high with a maximum width of 1.22m and 1.22m thick.
