Coverney Well
Coverney Well submitted by KiwiBetsy : Two springs make up this holy well which has no real structure. This is one of them. (Vote or comment on this photo)
Holy Well or Sacred Spring in Devon.
The vicar at St Michael’s Church told us about this well. He remembered it having been visited by his grandmother who was hoping for relief from sore eyes.

The well is located in Torrington Common and is mentioned on a notice board at the Old Bowling Green carpark. To find the well park in the carpark and walk over to the nearby public conveniences. From there follow the high stone wall away from the main road and through a gateway. Very soon a path leads to the left. Take this path for a short way until a lesser track joins it on your right. To the right of the fairly steep slope in front of you and just a short way down are some trees, the well is under one of these trees but no clear path takes you there. The vicar suggested that we approach the well slowly and noisily as the area is frequented by adders (we didn’t see any).

It's generally called Covety Spring locally, and is supposed to be good for your eyes.

Coverney Sacred Spring now (2018) has a signpost to help visitors locate this lovely tranquil spot. Continue past the food van, park in the gravel car park. Walk East for 1min back towards the church grounds. Take the first path on your left which goes sharply back to the left. After about 3mins turn right and you will soon see the sign for Coverney. The spring is downhill from the sign and the path can be slippery after rain. Please take care.
