Ancient Village or Settlement in Gwynedd

Situated opposite a small housing estate within the village of Rachub the site is currently being excavated by the Gwynedd Archaeological Trust due to an application for the development of the site for more residential housing.

The site is considered to have two round houses, one partially under the other. A furnace has been uncovered at the centre of the earliest dwelling suggesting the possibility of metal smelting. They have also found evidence of a granary, and several post holes have been discovered some featuring packing stones.

Finds include black burnished Roman pottery, a small blue bead from the Romano British period and spindle whorls for spinning yarn.

This is an exciting site that's attracting a lot of local interest as the team slowly build up a picture of how the people may have lived 2000 years ago.
