Ancient Cross in Devon

Elburton Cross survives as a square base and shaft on Springfield Road in Elburton, Devon. It is ironically located on a grassy verge south-east of Elburton Methodist Church. According to Historic England 1386411 the c. 15th Century Preaching cross is set on a modern dressed granite base. The substantial cross base has chamfered corner stops with deep pockets. A short shaft is set into the base projecting c. 1.5 feet above its support. Elburton Cross was originally sited c. 100 yards north-east of its current location.
