St Celynin's Well
St Celynin's Well submitted by kelpie : This well sits in the corner of the churchyard of an isolated little church in a beautfiul part of Wales (SH 7511773696). The well used to be roofed (1622) and the existing walls have been recently rebuilt, the stone benches may also be later additions. The well has a reputation for curing sick children. Holy Well / Spring in Conwy

This holy well is recorded as Coflein NPRN 32211, which describes this site as: "A rectangular basin, c.1.5m by 0.6m & 0.6m deep, set within a ruinous rectangular structure, 5.0m NE-SW by 3.8m, said to have born a datestone of 1622 & to have been roofed in 1742."

The Journal of Antiquities also includes a page for this site - see their entry for St Celynnin’s Well, Llangelynnin, Gwynedd. The Journal adds: "The place is very peaceful. A solitary place indeed for a hermit saint to come to live back in the 6th century AD … The little church here at Llangelynnin dates from 1350 but an earlier building stood on the site – perhaps the one founded by St.Celynnin himself. The remains of an ancient hut circle can be seen in the churchyard." Their grid reference varies slightly from Coflein's, with the well sited at SH 75145 73714. The hut circle is recorded as Coflein 303110.

St Celynin's Well
St Celynin's Well submitted by PAB : KiwiBetsy's posts back in 2006 of sacred wells in Wales were the inspiration for many of our walks and visits, and I'm still so grateful to her for introducing us to so many delightful and special places! St Celynin's Well was a particular delight - this photo was taken on our most recent visit, even more special this time as we reached it using the old track from the village. This photo... St Celynin's Well
St Celynin's Well submitted by KiwiBetsy : The well is just behind the part of the wall that juts out. Our landlady, who told us about this lovely church & well mentioned it’s remoteness, it’s other worldliness, the quietness, the sereneness and how you could just see the ladies in long black dresses and bonnets, trudging their way up the ancient footpath to worship. St Celynin's Well
St Celynin's Well submitted by KiwiBetsy : Sickly children used to be dipped in the water of St Celynin’s Well in the early morning, after dipping they were wrapped in blankets and carried to a nearby farmhouse to sleep. If the child’s clothes floated, when placed on the water, the child would recover, but if they sank there was no hope.
