Round Cairn in Conwy

Coflein 300929

Situated within an enclosed pasture on a SW facing slope above Afon Llugwy and to the west of Coed Bryn Brethynau this is a large burial cairn that measures about 12m in diameter but sadly not very high due to robbing. It lies on a prominent rocky outcrop commanding views mainly to the south. The cairn has been disturbed and several rubble filled hollows are apparent. There is a cist (orientated NNW to SSE and about 1.10m long by 0.80m wide, with a possible large capstone adjacent.

The surrounding fields are adorned with interesting large rock formations. Clearly due to field clearance but an interesting distraction nevertheless.
