livingstone visited on 27th Nov 2010 - their rating: Cond: 3 Amb: 2 Access: 5 For a site that is right in the middle of a housing estate it is pretty good. Perhaps it's very existance owes itself to close proximity of watchful neighbours

markj99 visited on 3rd Jan 2004 - their rating: Cond: 2 Amb: 3 Access: 5 I appreciate that conserving the circle in some way is better than removing it, however, surrounding the circle by a modern housing estate has negated any air of antiquity that the stone circle may have possessed.

Aviemore submitted by cosmic : The Aviemore Stone Circle in Highland Region at NH896134 is now engulfed by a housing estate. it is a Clava type circle and has been quite sensitively preserved (although a little more room round the edges would have been appreciated).

The Urban Prehistorian writes: An unexpected curio by Andy B on Monday, 15 May 2017
(User Info | Send a Message)
‘……the site is not possessed of any notable features’ (Cash 1906)

‘What remains of this monument is not impressive’ (Highland Council n.d.)

A description of a megalith in the words of others

‘The monument was once located in open fields….’ (3).

‘The circle is on the Seafield estate, and…is ignored by the estate officials’ (1).

‘This cairn was built as a major landmark in the open, farming landscape of prehistoric Strathspey, though a housing estate has grown up around it recently’ (3).

‘The Aviemore stone-circle stands about half a mile north of Aviemore railway station, not more than 60 yards from the high-road, and just behind the United Free Church’ (1).

‘The circle can be found at the far end of the village, not the end that goes to Cairngorm’ (8).

‘As you head north out of Aviemore look out for a residential road called Muirton (on your right hand side). Then beyond the Ambulance and Fire Station, turn left (it is all signposted). In a little housing estate is a small circle of stones….’ (6)
