Cairn in Clackmannanshire

This cairn is recorded as Canmore ID 47168, which tells us about an entry from 1874: "A barrow in the Earl of Mar's pleasure grounds, about a stonecast E of the public road to Clackmannan was opened c.1810 when a contracted skeleton was found in a cist built of five flagstones on one of which a cross had been cut." In 1933, they record: "The site of the cairn at Hawk Hill lies about 100 yds SSE of the lodge gate (ie at NS 8902 9284). The position is marked by a setting of young trees, but the ground has been cultivated and no definite outline of any structure can now be traced. A few loose stones of no great size, lying scattered about, are the only signs of a cairn."

More recent entries say: "(this is) an earth-and-stone, well preserved cairn 16.3m in diameter and 1.4m high. On its summit is a concrete seat ... the alleged site is at NS 8900 9287. Only a circle of trees and a level area c.10.0m in diameter indicate the possible site of a cairn."

The Northern Antiquarian (TNA) also features a page for this cairn - see their entry for Hawk Hill Cairn, Alloa, Clackmannanshire, which gives directions for finding the site together with a photograph, a brief archaeology & history, and local folklore.
