Llanrwst Gorsedd Circle
Llanrwst Gorsedd Circle submitted by Alta-Falisa : Coming as a surprise, ... the modern stones circle of Llanrwst. (Pronouncing the name properly is another matter !) Photo taken in May 2013. (Vote or comment on this photo)
Modern Stone Circle in Conwy (Bwrdeistref Sirol)

This circle was built in 1951 to commemorate the Eisteddfod in the town that year. It consists of 14 large stones, twelve in the circle and two outliers to the NE at about 6 feet (1.8 metres) high. It is set in parkland beside the River Conwy and was the centre of activity on the Bank Holiday Monday. To reach it you have to cross a single lane bridge and there is a car park further down on the left. The old man in the tea shop said he thought there used to be stones there before the modern one was built but I can’t find any information about this. It is a pleasant place to take a walk along the river.

With thanks to Graham for the information, more with photos on his Megalithic Walks pages.

Who am I to speak after Andy B and say :
- Condition : 5 (brand new -- compared to real stuff)
- Ambiance : 4 (great idea to incorporate in modern life a replica of an ancient monument -- see also the one in Beaumaris, near the pier)
- Access : 5 (and there is car park about 150 m further down the road towards B.5106 -- which, would you believe it ?, may even be free...)
- Accuracy : 5 (bang on : the coordinates are perfectly correct).
