Ancient Trackway in Conwy
The Hiraethog Trail is a long distance national trail that links the Hiraethog villages of Pentrefoilas, Cerrigydrudion, Llanfihangel Glyn Myfr and Llanrhaeadr and more. Like so many national trails it encompasses footpaths, quiet lanes and country roads some of which may have been used for centuries, if not millenia. This particular section of the trail (starting at the OS ref above) follows the Hiraethog Trail northwards along an ancient trackway for about 2k, where the Hiraethog Trail then takes a sharp turn to the east and heads towards Cerrigydrudion. However, the trackway continues north for a further 3k where it eventually meets with Llyn Alwen. This 5k stretch enters an unspoilt landscape of rolling moors, forests and quiet lakes. Whilst providing ample evidence of prehistoric activity, with several cairns and multiple stone alignments, a clear indication of this trackway's ancient heritage.
Coflein has identified the trackway as being a multiperiod trackway (NPRN 408312) and provides an OS ref at SH8861055070 some distance along it.
