St Mary's Well (Bovey Tracey)
St Mary's Well (Bovey Tracey) submitted by KiwiBetsy : No golden frogs .... just golden daffodils. (Vote or comment on this photo)
Holy Well or Sacred Spring in Devon.
The well is set into the front wall of the churchyard of St Peter, St Paul and St Thomas of Canterbury Church (which used to St Mary’s) in Bovey Tracey.

There is a story concerning the well.

Long ago a humble priest returned home one evening to find a visitor waiting for him. The priest and his wife shared their food with the visitor and offered shelter. The visitor blessed the couple and promising them good fortune, went to pray at the well saying ‘here is living water for yourself and the church’. From that day on the frogs which inhabited the well were gold coloured and water from the well was used for baptisms.

Unfortunately when we visited there was no water and no golden frogs …. only golden daffodils.
