West Anstey Barrows
West Anstey Barrows submitted by Bladup : The eastern West Anstey Barrow. (Vote or comment on this photo)
There are two prominent round barrows on Anstey Common hilltop, about a hundred metres to the north of the ridge top road, and easily accessible from readily available parking places.

The western of the two is a nicely formed round barrow, about 25 metred diameter and 2.5 metres high. It has been dug into at the top and from the north. To the east of this barrow is a second, much bigger barrow which is covered in gorse and other shrubbery which tend to hide it. It is about 30-40 metres in diameter, and up to 4 metres in height, but has been very disturbed by digging. It has clear remnants of a ditch surrounding it.

The views up here are superb, or would be on a clear day, with Dartmoor visible away in the distance to the south.
